With the cooler weather and crystal clear water, we are having the best BREAM Season ever, many bream are 40cms plus! Floating fresh mullet strips or prawn bait as close to the oyster leases as possible should get some positive results. With the unusually warm water for this time of the year there is still some very good FLATHEAD about. Once again mullet strips are good bait for FLATHEAD. LUDERIC (black fish) are just beginning to appear in the lake at the moment, so if you are travelling up from Sydney it may pay to bring some green weed with you. HUGE KINGFISH have been spotted chasing schools of baitfish in Breckenridge Channel. At Blue Peter Boatshed, we have a good range of frozen Bait and live worms and all the tackle needs for fishing Wallis Lake and Surrounds. Do drop into our Boatshed at 95 Little Street, Forster and catch up with all the Fishing Advice, hot spots and tidal information. Besides the great taste of fresh fish, there are also so many health benefits for including fish regularly in our diets. HAPPY FISHING!

COME AND SEE OUR NEW RANGE...of surface popper, available in two sizes 10 and 15 cms.
We have a generous stock of KOKODA at Blue Peter Boatshed. These poppers are used for targeting surface fish such as Taylor and Kingfish, a great sport in Wallis Lake, Forster

so come and find us at 95 Little Street FORSTER NSW 2428 Late Summer is a good time to fish at Wallis Lake. The WHITING are still around in numbers as the water temperature remains warm they are still attacking the surface poppers and small hard bodied lures- great fun! Live and frozen worms (which you can purchase from Blue Peter Boatshed) ensure a great catch of Whiting. Look for the Live Worms Flag on Little St, Forster The FLATHEAD have moved to the lower reaches of the Lake in big numbers. Where there have been a lot of big female Flathead, generally you’ll find a number of males in the vicinity and these make good catches. Other species, BREAM, TREVALLY, FLOUNDER, TAILOR and LEATHERJACKET to name a few are regularly caught in Wallis Lake and make for a nice mixed catch of fish. TREVALLY do put up a good fight and are very good eating when cooked fresh. The Prawns will run in about ten days time after the full moon tonight (17/3/14) for a period of eight to ten days. This will entice the fish to become more active especially the WHITING. This Summer has been a record year for Blue Swimmer crabs and they are still around in large numbers. As well as Fishing in Wallis Lake there are many other great activities such as SWIMMING, SNORKELLING and PICNIC AREAS to enjoy. In our shop we have a comprehensive range of snorkels, aqua shoes, beach toys for the children, sun hats, sunscreen and sunglasses. remember WE SELL LIVE BEACH WORMS AND FROZEN FISHERMAN PACKS RIGHT THROUGH THE SUMMER MONTHS There was a burst of Spring weather earlier in the season and then we saw a return to wintery conditions and cold sea water currents.
Large FLATHEAD can be seen laying around in the shallows soaking up the warmth from the sun. We should soon be getting warm sea currents from the north which will activate the flatties and get them biting. BREAM and TREVALLY are being caught in around the oyster leases and will increase in numbers as the water temperature increases. There is a late run of BLACK FISH (LUDERICK) and they are very nice eating indeed. The Summer run of WHITING should commence soon and we have a continuous supply of Live Worms which will guarantee a nice catch of WHITING. These fish are great fun caught on poppers or small soft plastics, also available for sale at Blue Peter Boatshed. Warren is more than happy to demonstrate their rigging and use off our deck. He can assist with any other fishing or boating advice you may need. Most of the islands in WALLIS LAKE have beach areas around them and these are ideal spots for relaxing family picnics. These shallow spots are a great place to throw a line out and catch some WHITING. Our BLUE PETER boats are well equipped family sized boats and we supply a comprehensive map of WALLIS LAKE, fishing gear hire, if required, and will have the latest Fishing information available for you. Come and find us at 95 Little Street FORSTER NSW 2428 While I don't want to discourage tourists to beautiful Wallis Lake, it is important visitors to the Great Lakes understand that Mid Coast Council have introduced a Level 4 Water Restriction during our Drought period. Our Boatshed is complying and we have appropriate measures in place and lots of signage explaining the content of these restrictions. Please see the below provided by Mid-Coast Council to ensure you fully understand the current restrictions in place. Click below to view the full PDF version of this document or go to https://www.midcoast.nsw.gov.au/Water-Services/Managing-Water-Use/Water-Restrictions
This information has been taken from the Mid Coats Council Website www.midcoast.nsw.gov.au info_guide_mcc_severe_water_restrictions_residential_25nov19__3_.pdf Download File it has been a difficult Summer Holiday period with regard to our Business and coping with Level 4 Water Restrictions. However I have to say we are so much more fortunate than our Tourist Businesses on South Coast NSW. With the Level 4 Water Restrictions our business become very Labour Intensive as far as keeping our boats clean and free from fish scraps and bait. Water was handcrafted from kitchen and used ever so sparingly. Our Fish cleaning tables were equipped with buckets for use in cleaning fish with Salt Water.
I have to thank our many Customers and Clients for their understanding of this situation and compliment them for their assistance and patience. Keep posted on the revival of Wallis Lake and the local fishing after the much needed rains recently. |
