![]() With the water temperature at 22 to 24 degrees the FLATHEAD have really become active. After a slow start to the season they are now taking plastics and lures readily. For those not yet converted to fishing with plastics, a piece of Mullet Fillet or Pilchard drifted along the channels will get you a nice feed of Flatties. WHITING are around in big numbers this year and are mostly being taken with live worms, which we have for sale on a continuous basis. Surface poppers used in the shallows are also a fun way to catch these great little fighters. The big BREAM are proving hard to catch. The crystal clear warm water, along with the extra boat traffic has the bigger BREAM hiding in the oyster leases or in the deeper water. Fishing into the leases between the racks will be the most productive way to catch yourself a bigger fish. Wallis Lake is full of BLACK FISH (LUDERICK) at the moment and are being caught in big numbers by those targeting them. This is rather strange given the high water temperature as they are normally a winter fish. BLUE SWIMMER and MUD CRABS are plentiful and will only increase in the coming weeks. The school JEWIES seem to have left the Lake and are being taken quite regularly off the beaches using pilchards or live worms as bait. Big 20 kg plus JEWIES are also about but are mostly caught along the breakwall using live mullet or large soft plastics.

With the cooler weather and relatively clear water, we are having a good BREAM Season, many bream are 40cms plus! Floating fresh mullet strips or prawn bait as close to the oyster leases as possible should get some positive results.
There is still some very good FLATHEAD about as the water is still warm in the shallows. Once again mullet strips are good bait for FLATHEAD. LUDERIC (black fish) are just beginning to appear in the lake at the moment, so if you are travelling up from Sydney it may pay to bring some green weed with you. Schools of TAYLOR have moved into the Lake and are good fun on Surface lures. TREVALLY can be caught with Lures and Bait. At Blue Peter Boatshed, we have a good range of frozen Bait and live worms and all the tackle needs for fishing Wallis Lake and Surrounds. Do drop into our Boatshed at 95 Little Street, Forster and catch up with all the Fishing Advice, hot spots and tidal information. Besides the great taste of fresh fish, there are also so many health benefits for including fish regularly in our diets. HAPPY FISHING! Spring is now with us and with that the fishing patterns have normally fairly sluggish in early Spring and are mostly caught on bait. However, with warmer water they are much more active and are being taken regularly on plastics and hard bodied lures. Plenty of spare plastic lures are recommended as the PIKE and LEATHERJACKETS like to chew them off!
BREAM are still the main catch in Wallis Lake and are easily taken on a large variety of baits – great fun for the kids. The bigger BREAM are very shy because of the crystal clear water. Fishing around and into the oyster leases will greatly increase your chances of hooking some larger fish but be prepared for a few bust ups. Most of the islands in WALLIS LAKE have beach areas around them and these are ideal spots for relaxing family picnics. These shallow spots are a great place to throw a line out and catch some WHITING. Live worms or nippers are the best WHITING bait however, peeled prawn tail also works very well. Our BLUE PETER boats are well equipped family sized boats and we supply a comprehensive map of WALLIS LAKE, fishing gear hire, if required and will have the latest fishing information available for you.
