Summer time is here!!
The WHITING are around in reasonable numbers this year but so far are only taking bait. As the water temperature rises they will start attacking the surface poppers and small hard bodied lures- Great fun! FLATHEAD have moved to the lower reaches of the Lake in big numbers. There have been a lot of reports of broken lines as some of the larger fish grab the bait and head into the oyster leases. In recent weeks a number of larger FLATHEAD have been caught. Some Anglers are being surprised to hook into a big KINGFISH which have taken up residence in the Lake recently. Blue Swimmer crabs are so plentiful, it’s not surprising many are being caught up on fishing rod bait! Other species, BREAM, TREVALLY, FLOUNDER, and TAILOR and LEATHERJACKET to name a few are regularly caught in Wallis Lake and make for a nice mixed catch of fish. The Prawns will run early Xmas holiday period for about seven days roughly. This will entice the fish to become more active especially the WHITING. As well as Fishing in Wallis Lake there are many other great activities such as SWIMMING, SNORKELLING and PICNIC AREAS to enjoy. In our shop we have a comprehensive range of snorkels, aqua shoes, sun hats, sunscreen lotion and sunglasses, the NEW RANGE of BARZ OPTICS is really worth a look! COME AND VISIT US AT BLUE PETER BOATSHED, WE WILL LOOK AFTER YOU ON WALLIS LAKE!! REMEMBER WE SELL LIVE BEACH WORMS AND FROZEN FISHERMAN PACKS RIGHT THROUGH THE SUMMER MONTHS. This year the water is very clear making the fish quite shy and easily spooked. Fishing close to or even into the oyster leases will improve the catch as this is where the fish shelter during the day. Early morning or late in the day, in the lower light times, are more productive as the fish move out from their shelter into open waters. This season has seen some schools of very big TREVALLY and if hooked on your light bream gear will test your fishing skills to the fullest. Once again the SAND WHITING have arrived in big numbers, their favourite bait is Live Worms which we generally have at the Boatshed. FLATHEAD are being caught regularly on Whitebait or Mullet strips, but now the water has warmed up they are taking the soft plastics much more readily. If the kids are keen to get out and catch a fish or just have a swim we have a comprehensive, coloured map of the Wallis Lake and can direct you to an excellent fishing or swimming spot. Blue Swimmer Crabs also become very active during the Summer and can be caught in Witches Hat nets set away from the main boating channels. The prawn run will start around January 10, and should provide some good hauls for about a week from that date.Remember WE SELL LIVE BEACH WORMS AND FROZEN FISHERMAN PACKS RIGHT THROUGH THE SUMMER MONTHS Win a half day boat trip on Wallis Lake with Blue Peter Boat Hire to help us celebrate the launch of our new website.
